The Netherlands and Germany in the decade of 80 were bubbling with good bands, and in this pack of bands Tranquilizers is one of the most forgotten.
Formed in 84 by Johnny Red (bass) and Eddie Paranoid (guitar and vocals) just recorded an EP of four songs called Paranoia, two of the songs were originals and the other 2 were versions (Long Blond Hair, Born to Love One Woman).
Johnny Red or Jan Van Hal lived in the Netherlands and Paranoid Eddie or Martin lived in Cologne - Germany, the band was formed after a trip to Holland by Martin, the two guys have been friends for a long time and together already did some live performances, the band had no name and no songs by then.
Then it was the turn of Johnny Red to go to Germany, there Martin presented him a drummer named Michael, they had the idea of a song called Paranoia and were trying to start a band but things did not work well. Until Johnny Red introduce Martin a friend named Hans, they only need something like two trials and the Rockhouse (Dutch label that was releasing several psychobilly bands) contacted them for recording an EP, it appears Johnny Red knew people on the label and talked about the band. They had just played a few times together and recorded the unique two own songs that had (Paranoia and Destroyed Illusions) then they chose two more versions and after a night of drinking came the name, tranquillizers!
The EP was released shortly after at 85, they played a few shows and the band broke up soon after, according to Johnny Red it was hard to play live because not all the band members live in the same country. Not long after the release of the ep also came the compilation (one of the best psychobilly made today, with bands like Stringbeans, Batmobile, Frenzy, Wampas, among others ... ). Psycho Attack Over Europe which they appeared with two songs. When the Tranquillizers end Johnny Red and Hans came to play in a neo- rockabilly band called Rocky Road .
The tranquillizers is a mandatory band, it's a piece of history of psychobilly and is highly recommended for all those who seek to obscure bands!
